Position Summary:
Ogletree Deakins has an opportunity for an experienced Billing Appeals Manager to join the Firm’s expanding team. As the Billing Appeals Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the deductions and appeals process within our organization. You will play a key role in ensuring that all deductions made by our clients are accurate and compliant, and manage any appeals that may arise during the process. This position may be remote, but the successful candidate must reside in a state where the firm has a physical office.
Essential Functions:
  • Oversee and manage the deductions and appeals process from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of deductions and issues.
  • Delegate work accordingly based on volume, complexity and priority.
  • Analyze appeal cases to identify trends and provide strategic recommendations to minimize future appeals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for appeal resolution.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies and procedures to expedite the deductions and appeals process.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Train employees on procedures and technology.
  • Hire, onboard, coach and mentor employees. Conduct mid-year and annual evaluations.
  • Conduct thorough investigations to identify any discrepancies or errors in deduction requests.
  • Work closely with the financial Operations teams to reconcile deducted amounts and accurately resolve appeal cases.
  • When needed, process work to maintain SLAs.
  • Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes related to deductions and appeals processes.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients and assist in resolving any issues or concerns related to deductions and appeals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, law, finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing deductions and appeals in a law practice or similar industry including prior staff management.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, EPLI and legal procedures related to deductions and appeals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using deductions and appeals management software and tools. Prefer experience with Aderant, BillBlast and SmartSheets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Professional demeanor and strong leadership qualities.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Benefits:
In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $104,640 and $156,90. In accordance with New York City’s Wage Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this New York City position is between $119,760 and $179,640. In accordance with California’s amended labor code as stated in Senate Bill 1162, the expected salary range for this California position is between $90,800 and $190,800. In accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunities act, the expected salary range for this Washington position is between $106,160 and $159,240. In accordance with the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act, the expected salary range for this DC position is between $108,320 and $162,480. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. This position qualifies for the benefits below.
