DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Bridge and Structural Designer, your main task will be to create and review detailed plans for various bridge and structural projects. This includes handling complex projects like multi-span concrete or steel structures, as well as performing engineering calculations for simpler structures such as culverts, single span steel and concrete bridges, and substructure units. You will also assess design plans and submissions for bridges and structures, both from consultants and internal staff, and be involved in plotting grades, calculating bridge geometry, and creating detailed layouts for structural plans. Additionally, you will meticulously compute and verify material quantities, particularly structural steel, concrete, and other items related to bridges, for contractor payment purposes.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Hours of work are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed Internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a Bridge and Structural Draftsman-Designer; or
  • Three years of professional experience in bridge and structural design work, including six months involving CADD operation; an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or
  • One year of professional experience in bridge and structural design work, including six months involved CADD operation; and a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
