Communications & Engagement Specialist: Part-Time
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
MIMA’s MISSION
The mission of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs is to promote community wellbeing, economic development, and the integration of immigrant communities by identifying needs and opportunities that immigrants bring to our city, while developing public-private partnerships to strengthen the development of these communities.
POSITION PURPOSE
This position’s primary responsibility is to strengthen MIMA’s efforts around messaging by developing tailored communications and targeted partnerships. The Communications Specialist will write, edit and distribute various types of content, including material for MIMA website, press releases, marketing material and other public facing content that takes the message to the public. This is a remote position with occasional in-person work.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage MIMA’s social media communication channels.
- Maintain and develop content for MIMA’s website, including ongoing website redesign updates.
- Maintain and develop newsletter communication.
- Maintain and develop graphics/infographics.
- Maintain data metric trackers.
- Organize communication campaigns for MIMA’s signature programs and heavy-communication periods (i.e. heritage months, policy initiatives, NALI, Baltimore Immigration Summit, etc.)
- Represent MIMA in Communications Team meetings to advocate for creation of multilingual content by other agencies.
- Continue MIMA’s existing partnerships with PIOs in other agencies and quasi-agencies across Baltimore City government.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in a related field.
- Professional experience working with media outlets (newspapers, radio, television, etc.).
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, proactive, and independent.
- Familiar with Microsoft suite Microsoft Suite, Meta Business Suite, Canva, Drupal, Adobe, email marketing platforms, and other communications tools.
- Must have writing skills.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual skills preferred
- Local government and city agency experience
COMPENSATION
- Contractual: $28.80 per hour
