Position Overview:

The primary function of the District Sales Manager (DSM) is to effectively manage the day to day activities associated with the assigned geographic sales territory, develop new customers, and expand sales to existing customers at all levels. The DSM is directly responsible for the supervision, maintenance and condition of the territory as it pertains to driving sales programs, increasing profits, and overall business guidance.

What you'll do

  • Relationship Building – Servicing, maintaining, and increasing existing business by developing professional, progressive, and trusted relationships with your customers.
  • Prospecting – Searching for and developing new business for incremental sales growth through new accounts.
  • Dealer Training – Conduct product knowledge training seminars with dealer sales people to facilitate the sale and accurate representation of Hunter Douglas Fabrication products.
  • Business Building – Constant and consistent effort to sell sample books, displays and collateral materials for the purpose of supporting and building Territory sales.
  • Marketing and Promotion Implementation – Present all marketing and advertising promotions and programs to all appropriate customers while offering recommendations and assistance to build Hunter Douglas Fabrication business.
  • Territory Management – Set up geographic territory into coherent, manageable Areas and Zones. Create and maintain Customer Profiles and appropriate call frequency of all accounts in the sales territory .
  • Discount Management – Maintain proper balance of company profitability with sales growth and market share in the assigned geographic sales territory.
  • Sales Analysis – Use all available sales reporting capabilities to analyze sales numbers of the assigned territory for the purpose of developing objectives and goals for positive and progressive sales development and growth.
  • Territory Reporting – Keep RSM informed of pertinent and relevant activity occurring in the assigned sales territory through weekly and monthly reports completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Conflict Management – The DSM must conduct a thorough investigation to discover facts concerning all significant customer conflicts occurring in the assigned sales territory. Develop fair and equitable solutions to problems and make recommendations for resolution to your customer and company management.
  • All other duties as assigned

Who you are?

  • The DSM’s time is largely unsupervised and requires self-discipline to be productive. Out of town and overnight travel is common for most territories.
  • Judicious use of company expenses within the set guidelines is required. Possessing and maintaining a valid Drivers License and good driving record is imperative to employment.
  • Adaptability – Ability to perform a variety of tasks and being able to change assignment or direction on short notice.
  • Articulate Communication – The DSM must be able to verbally express themselves clearly and effectively when talking with people or groups in person or by phone.
  • Presentation Speaking – Must possess ability to speak in front of small or large groups. Able to convey product and program information with confident and persuasive delivery in a customer-training environment.
  • Making and Problem Solving – Identifies problems, gathers data, develops and assess alternative courses of action, and makes timely decisions based on logical assumptions using all available information.
  • High Energy – Establish and maintain high activity levels.
  • Initiative and Motivation – Actively tries to influence events to achieve objectives and goals. Self-starter who works well without close supervision and takes personal satisfaction in job performance.
  • Planning – Establishes course of action, allocates resources, uses time efficiently, and is personally well organized.
  • Persuasiveness – Uses appropriate and creative methods and styles of communication to gain acceptance of a proposal or new product.

  • Will support the Des Moines (largest area), Ames, Iowa City, Waterloo, Mason City, Sioux City, Dubuque and surrounding areas. Preferred location is Central Iowa.
