Introduction


The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Office of the Secretary is hiring an Employee Engagement Advisor to lead efforts to support employee engagement, retention, and promote a culture of belonging for all DNR employees. This position can be headquartered at any DNR office in Wisconsin, depending on business needs and the location of the selected candidate. Remote work will be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period.

Position Summary


The Employee Engagement Advisor functions as a key policy advisor to the Secretary regarding the DNR employee experience. This position is responsible for assessing department culture, identifying organizational, systemic or divisional issues or opportunities and effectively guiding and influencing the culture of the department to engage and retain talent. This includes developing agency-wide strategies to improve engagement, and designing, developing, and implementing programs aimed at creating a positive workplace environment. The position reports to the Assistant Deputy Secretary and will lead initiatives to support a diverse, talented, and engaged employee community.

Salary Information


Starting pay for this position is between $35.70 to $47.94 per hour ($74,256 to $99,715 annually).

Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. Starting pay may vary for current State employees.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is included in the classification Agency Organizational Development Officer within Pay Schedule/Range 81-02. A two-year Career Executive trial period may be required.

Remote Work: Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for remote work. Remote work approval is based on individual circumstances and is subject to supervisor approval and DNR remote work policies. Approval is subject to change without notice based on business needs. Employees with approved remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include experience in ALL the following criteria:

  • Analyzing, advising, researching, or planning evaluation and support of employee engagement, employee retention, organizational behavior, or the relationship between employees and the organization.
  • Gathering and analyzing data to support data-driven decision making.
  • Leading a team to accomplish a goal that requires collaborating across organizational boundaries (e.g., across different functional areas within an organization, with other companies or external stakeholders, etc.)


Preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

  • Education or training in qualitative data collection methods, such as surveys, focus groups, or similar.
  • Experience designing or leading surveys/ focus groups, especially for organizational culture assessments.
  • Experience providing recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Experience working in a position of leadership/responsibility (e.g., providing guidance and direction, change management, strategic planning, etc.) serving a large, complex organization, especially in the public sector/state government.
