Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Clinician (IECMHC)

Job Type: Full-time, one-year grant funded position

SC Infant Mental Health Association (SCIMHA) is a collaborative, multidisciplinary membership association for all infant-, early childhood- and family-serving professionals in South Carolina. As a hub for healthy social and emotional development resources, we help babies thrive.

This position will provide office-based treatment services to caregivers of infants and very young children in the rural county of Orangeburg, SC situated 45 minutes south of Columbia and an hour north of Charleston. Service will be delivered within a Family Resource Center 3 days per week.

The clinician will be required to engage in several professional development opportunities including participation in the IECMH certificate program and training to become certified in evidence-based practices. Additional responsibilities will be determined on a case-by-case basis but may include intake support, clinical training coordination, outreach, and program development support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide diagnostic mental health assessments of children ages 5 and under including assessing social emotional functioning and caregiver-child relationship functioning.

· Engage and collaborate with the identified client and family in the treatment process and goal setting, while identifying risk and protective factors.

· Provide infant-parent, child-parent and family therapy services to children ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers. Treatment modalities may include Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Circle of Security Parenting, Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-up, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This may include providing services to postpartum women experiencing perinatal mood/anxiety concerns that can impact the mental health of their infant. Services may be office-based, virtual or in-home.

· Facilitate psychoeducational parenting groups as capacity allows.

· Support caregivers regarding typical emotional development and provide developmental guidance regarding challenging behaviors.

· Foster strong relationships community partners and providers to coordinate and support relational health and social-emotional development in very young children.

· Provide case management services, including referral assistance, advocacy and support to families accessing community resources.

· Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation consistent with agency standards.

· Participate in ongoing trainings, supervision, and team meetings.

· Cultivate sensitivity to linguistic, cultural, social, economic, individual, and role differences among the infants, young children, and families served.

Required

· Master’s degree or PhD/PsyD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Candidate must be licensed or licensed eligible (please note, current supervision can only support candidates towards licensure for Professional Counselors and Psychologists)

· Selected candidates must complete all graduate degree requirements and provide proof of degree prior to starting position

· Knowledge of infant mental health theory and child development with the first five years of life (including attachment theory and early relationship development).

· Knowledge of issues related to infant/early childhood emotional health (e.g., prematurity, failure to thrive, trauma, maternal depression, domestic violence and its impact on families, grief and loss, substance use).

· Knowledge of dyadic psychotherapies, such as Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-up, Circle of Security and Child Parent Psychotherapy, and disorders in infancy and toddlerhood (DC: 0-5).

· Experience working to support the relational health of children 0-5 and their families.

· Willingness to apply for the Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health® in the category of IMH Specialist
