Senior Accountant - Pekin, IL
Remote
$70,000 - $90,000 Per Year
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial information to management, auditors, and regulatory authorities while being responsive to the needs of internal and external customers. This position guides others in the use of appropriate accounting practices. These duties consistently require the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and involve complex and confidential data. The position requires knowledge necessary to analyze, interpret, and make decisions based on varying facts or circumstances. This position is focused within the Property and Casualty (P&C) Accounting area.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
● Performs monthly, quarterly, and annual processing of accounting information for related reporting requirements
● Answers questions and inquiries from management, auditors, and regulatory authorities
● Prepares, reviews, and submits regulatory filings
● Prepares responses for external auditors’, state examiners’, and regulatory authorities’ requests
● Prepares various analytical reports required by management throughout the year
● Assists with preparation and review of various departmental responsibilities
● Assists other areas of Accounting with accounting issues and special projects
● Mentors and assists with supervision of Accounting staff
● Works closely with the PC Accounting team in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
● Responsible for monthly processing, reviewing, analyzing, and balancing of all statistical data needed for financials, including premiums, losses paid, reserves, and reinsurance
● Prepares internal monthly financial statement
● Responsible for calculation and application of annual intercompany allocations
● Maintains property and casualty reinsurance program, including calculations, ledger entries, payments, and reporting
● Prepares, reviews, and submits regulatory filings
● Responsible for schedules in the quarterly and annual statements prepared in accordance with NAIC’s Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP’s)
● Reconciles bank statements and accounts monthly
● Responsible for management of general ledger system including approval of new accounts and accounting period maintenance
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
● Typically requires 3+ years of related experience
● Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion
● Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
● Analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data
● Plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others
● Situational analysis and judgment in making critical decisions
● Filing, bookkeeping, recording, and computational skills
● Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
● Microsoft Office software
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
● Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or insurance designations preferred
