WORK SCHEDULE

    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    TheClinical Documentation Integrity Program, part of the Center for Clinical Excellence, performs concurrent review of inpatient medical records to ensure provider documentation accurately reflects patient severity of illness (SOI), acuity of care needs, risk of mortality (ROM) and the quality of treatment provided. Team members also serve on various multidisciplinary committees promoting quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ensures appropriate reimbursement for patient care, as well as correct reporting of epidemiological, quality, and safety data that is both internally and externally reported
  • Provides clinical insights necessary for responding to and challenging insurance denials and has primary responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to documentation improvement

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees the Clinical Documentation Program, which includes creating and maintaining methods, operational procedures and policies for clinical documentation processes across two campuses
  • Supervises Clinical Documentation Specialists, reviews work and provides training and coaching
  • Works to maintain and improve the quality and integrity of data collected for decision making and works with other areas of the organization to ensure consistent reporting of information.
  • Works with the Lead CDS to conduct clarification audits
  • Facilitates the review of clinical issues with Coding staff and works collaboratively to identify improvement opportunities

    REQUIREMENTS
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington
  • At least 6 years of recent clinical experience in an acute inpatient hospital setting with in-depth knowledge of medical and surgical care
  • At least 2 years of experience as Clinical Documentation Specialist
  • Management and/or supervisory experience
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and measurement
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
