Job Title: Youth Leadership Manager - Upstream Kansas

Department: Youth Leadership

Reports to: Senior Manager, Youth Leadership

Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Temporary through June 2025, with the possibility of extension based on funding renewal.

Location: Remote (must be based in Kansas)

Salary Grade Level: Manager


Role Summary: CADCA is seeking a Youth Leadership Manager committed to a "Youth Led, Adult Guided" approach, to lead our new and dynamic youth leadership initiative, Upstream Kansas. This role is pivotal in developing and overseeing initiatives that empower young people as community leaders and educators in substance misuse prevention efforts across the state. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Upstream Kansas project, including partner relationships (including with state agencies) and event logistics, while fostering a culture where youth actively participate and lead in their development. The role demands innovative project management, strategic partnership building, and effective facilitation skills. We are looking for a self-starter passionate about expanding opportunities for young people to lead in substance misuse prevention activities in Kansas.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Oversee Upstream Kansas Project Logistics and Communications: Coordinate all stakeholder and vendor meetings, communications, workplans, and engagement opportunities for Upstream Kansas.
  • With State Partners, Build and Facilitate a Youth Prevention Advisory Council: Champion the "Youth Led, Adult Guided" philosophy by actively engaging diverse youth in a statewide council focused on prevention education, advocacy, and engagement.
  • Support and Engage Communities of Practice: Facilitate and manage communities of practice for adult advisors and coalitions across Kansas looking to strengthen their youth engagement strategies. Coordinate peer and professional learning opportunities.
  • Oversee Events Planning and Logistics: Along with state partners, coordinate in-state events for youth and adult advisors, including venue rental, travel, lodging, and scheduling. Along with CADCA national staff, coordinate group travel and planning for youth leaders to attend CADCA signature events.
  • Lead Community Partnership Outreach and Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with diverse community partners, with a particular outreach emphasis on communities from which youth are disproportionately impacted by substance misuse.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in project management, with a particular focus on youth advocacy and leadership programs.
  • Knowledge of public health and substance misuse prevention.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting Kansas communities, particularly Kansas youth.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Familiarity with community coalitions and advocacy work.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for connecting with communities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to both structured and unstructured work environments.
Significant experience in working with youth, their adult advisors, and families.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Degree: Candidates should have either a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Education, or a related field, or at least five years of relevant work experience.
    • Years of experience: 3


    Additional Qualifications:

    Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.


      Travel Requirements:

      • Travel up to 20% in state, 5% national (domestic).

      Work Environment:

      • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
      • Experience communicating and participating in Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
      • Available to work CADCA’s seminal events: Drug Free Kids Campaign, Mid-Year Training Institute, and the National Leadership Forum.
      • Minimal light physical effort is required in performing duties in an office environment.
