Job Description

Johns Hopkins University is looking for a dynamic team player to serve as the Marketing Manager for the Johns Hopkins University Blomberg Center (JHUBC) in Washington, DC. The Marketing Manager leads the planning and execution of high-impact direct and strategic marketing, advertising, and promotional activity in support of goals set by the Director of Communications and the Hopkins Bloomberg Center Executive Director to raise the profile and awareness of the mission of the JHUBC in Washington, D.C. and beyond. They will provide primary oversight of audience identification, identify optimization opportunities, develop and execute a multi-channel marketing strategy, work with manage pre-event and post-event promotional campaigns as well as provide data analysis throughout event conception and execution.

Reporting to the JHUBC's Director of Communications, this position will focus on strategy and execution, analytics, and project management. The manager will partner with content, audience engagement, and multimedia strategists to develop and execute programming awareness and conversion campaigns across paid, owned (website, email, digital screens, newsletters), earned and social channels that promote JHUBC events and programming to raise the profile and awareness of the JHUBC. All major advertising campaigns about the mission of Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center will be led in partnership with the JHU University Communications' Integrated Marketing and Brand team.


About the Hopkins Bloomberg Center:

A bustling hub of collaboration, dialogue and discovery right in the heart of the nation's Capital, the Hopkins Bloomberg Center hosts daily in-person, hybrid and virtual programming from all corners of the John Hopkins University community. The Center frequently partners with prominent domestic and international organizations, as well as government entities and multilateral institutions, to create programming that brings Johns Hopkins policy expertise, research, and data to the forefront of the policymaking conversation in Washington and beyond.


Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and manage or serve as a consultant on all marketing strategy for the JHUBC's programming and event-related campaigns.
  • Take ownership over the implementation, quality assurance, testing, launch, and reporting activities for all marketing projects, including JHUBC newsletters.
  • Manage promotional content displayed within the building, including digital screen displays and physical signage.
  • Manage social content strategy and work with content, audience engagement, and multi-media colleagues to develop the JHUBC brand social platforms, specifically X/Twitter, LinkedIn and others.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and work with internal and external marketing teams and other stakeholders on creation of ads, collateral materials, and other deliverables that establish awareness and brand presence.
  • Continue to research new tactics, vendors, and manager analytics to gauge performance.
  • Provide quarterly and annual analysis of all audiences within the Johns Hopkins University community; make recommendations on growing audiences, untapped populations.
  • Ensure clarity of audience, tactic use and phases to ensure appropriate messaging; collaborate with entire team to ensure appropriate messaging.
  • Work with the JHU University Communications Creative and Brand Strategy team to ensure consistent branding and use of JHU brand guidelines.


Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of multi-channel marketing and integrated campaigns to optimize reach, engagement, and conversion.
  • An eye for detailed copywriting and design sense, ability to produce high-quality print and online marketing materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using word processing, content management systems, CRMs, communication analytics and social networking tools in communications or marketing programs.
  • Proficiency in Google Ads, Meta, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, etc., ideally creating dashboard views and other reporting documents to demonstrate impact and reach.
  • Experience working with leadership to plan social editorial calendars and determining content value proposition for each platform/channel audience.
  • Writing with appropriate style and tone for all social content.
  • Understanding of effective creative, design, and branding principles, and the use of traditional, digital and social media as means of communication.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a general audience.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at juggling multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple high-priority assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with students, faculty, staff, University officials, other stakeholders, donors and the public.
  • Communicates well with technical staff and other members of the University Marketing & Communications team.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with strategic marketing is preferred.
