Position Summary:

Are you a dependable, energetic, hard working, self starter, able to multi-task with a desire to make a difference in other people's lives? We are looking for an experienced, part-time medical insurance billing specialist to ensure the financial health of our organization by accurately and efficiently processing mental health claims, executing billing operations, and collaborating with internal teams to optimize revenue cycle management. Remote position in California. Hours are Monday to Friday, 3 to 4 hour shifts, with some flexibility in establishing set schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Overall execution of end-to-end medical billing and reimbursement process
  • Accurately process encounters / charges using ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Submit primary and secondary claims to Medicare, Medi-Cal and commercial insurance companies.
  • Accurately post payments received from payers and patients in the billing system
  • Send medical records and appeals to insurance companies as needed
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to eligibility, documentation, coding, procedures, and diagnoses
  • Address denials/appeals to optimize insurance reimbursements
  • Keep accounts up to date and accurate. Generate patient statements as needed
  • Follow up on past due balances and work with patients and insurance to resolve delinquent accounts
  • Address patient billing inquiries and collaborate with teams to ensure a smooth, professional service experience
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, coding changes, and payer policies to maintain compliance with billing standards
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and all other regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with the billing team to streamline the revenue cycle, resolve payment delays, and support continuous process improvements
  • Assist with preparing reports on billing activities and revenue trends

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED required
  • 2+ years prior work experience in medical billing roles
  • Proficiency in billing, healthcare reimbursement, payment posting, revenue cycle management, billing software, and electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medi-Cal and other third-party payer regulations and reimbursement processes
  • Certification in medical billing is highly desirable
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially MS Excel)
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks/objectives in a timely and efficient manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Mental health experience a plus
  • Detail oriented

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
