Columbus is seeking a Mortality Review Nurse to join a team focused on quality improvement initiatives within the Missouri Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver system. **This position is fully remote.**

The Mortality Review Nurse will complete a clinical review of source documents related to the death and medical/health care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to ascertain whether all necessary and reasonable measures were taken to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of the individual, and to identify and mitigate any preventable findings that could affect the health, safety, and welfare of other individuals receiving supports and services.

Source documents include, but are not limited to, medical and health care records from hospitals, physicians, and other medical practitioners; health monitoring records for the individual (e.g., vital signs, weight, blood pressures seizure records, blood sugars, etc.; staff documentation and progress notes from residential provider sand other providers of care; previous incident reports concerning the decedent; and death certificate and autopsy reports.

Responsibilities include:

  • Correspondence with HCBS providers regarding source documents.
  • Entering pertinent information found in the source documents into the standardized electronic mortality review system.
  • Preparation and submission of comprehensive findings with the specified timeframes.
  • Addressing questions from the Mortality Review Committee about submitted reviews.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse holding an active Compact Nursing License and in good standing in the state of Missouri.
  • At least one year experience conducting mortality reviews, clinical investigations, and/or comprehensive evaluations required.
  • Previous experience working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Candidates for this position must satisfactorily complete Background Checks prior to employment through the FBI and the Missouri Family Care Registry.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. *Candidate may be asked to provide a writing sample during the interview process.
  • Ability to work with a team by building internal relationships with staff and external relationships with partners.
  • Self-motivated, shows initiative, and ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong attention to detail is a must.
  • Skill in typing, utilization of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other data entry applications.
