Job Description

Ali`i Health Center (AHC) is currently looking for several Remote Patient Access Coordinators to be part of our growing team. Candidates must live on one of the Hawaiian Islands.

The Patient Access Coordinator will assist callers with scheduling new and established office visits. They will also provide assistance to the in-office clinical staff with obtaining prior authorization for in office and elective outpatient surgeries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Patient scheduling and telephone triage: Receives incoming patient telephone calls for all Ali`i Health Center departments to schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.
  • Maintains responsibility for: obtaining pre-defined data; completing scheduling process in computer system; scheduling conflict resolution,; and cancelling/rescheduling based on patient/provider/or facility request; communication with staff for daily changes and updates to patients and provider’s schedules.
  • Provides patients with necessary instructions regarding preparation, timing, and location of exams per facility guidelines.
  • Addresses patient concerns either directly or by forwarding the call/message to someone with the appropriate authority.
  • Selects correct patient and correct service/exam.: verifies through Patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) when last and any future appointments are scheduled to coordinate accordingly; ensures orders, referrals, and required authorizations are in place when applicable.
  • Documenting calls as necessary.
  • Prior Authorization (PA) for all Ali’i Health Center in clinic and outpatient procedure: submits and monitors PAs for assigned departments/providers; communicates directly with onsite clinical staff with questions and verification of services.; upload and files documents to Patient’s EHR chart.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program required.
  • 2-3 years clinical experience as an MA required.
  • MA certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations required.
  • Knowledge of an EHR system
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients over the phone.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of customer service and company protocol in hectic and sometimes hostile situations.
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibits and promotes a standard of excellence in the performance of all duties and interactions with patients, co-workers, and outside contacts.
  • Maintains flexibility in hours, as needed.
  • Works as part of a team, demonstrates willingness to assist with wherever and whatever is needed.
  • Self-motivated, needing little supervision.
  • Detail oriented.

Job Type: Full-time
