DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Purchasing Agent, you will broaden your knowledge of purchasing by utilizing Commonwealth electronic systems to purchase supplies, materials, equipment, and services for the DOC's Southeast Regional Purchasing Group. This This position is located within SCI Camp Hill and oversees procurement for several SCI locations such as SCI Camp Hill, SCI Chester, and SCI Phoenix.

In this position, you will provide knowledge and guidance for DOC staff in determining the appropriate methods for purchasing supplies, materials, equipment, and services; maintain purchasing documentation as well as an electronic list of approved vendors; use a Commonwealth purchasing card to make payments to vendors; and establish and hold bid openings and evaluations, as well as award contracts. Additionally, you will resolve routine purchasing and delivery problems through contact with the Comptroller’s Office, Central Office procurement staff, and vendors.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: After the successful completion of a 6 month probationary period (you will be reporting to the office 5 days a week during your probationary period), a determination will be made if you will be permitted to telework part time (up to 2 days per a week). In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Camp Hill.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in purchasing work involving contact with vendors in the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, or services; or
  • Three years of experience in requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of goods; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post-high school education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for purchasing or stores experience to a maximum of two years.

Conditions of Employment:
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully pass two tuberculosis tests before being hiring due to the work location being with SCI Camp Hill.

Additional Requirements:
  • You are required to complete a mandatory 3 week training program at the DOC Academy in Elizabethtown.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
