JOB SUMMARY


The SQL/Azure Database Administrator plays a critical role in overseeing the integration and maintenance of the company's software-based operational systems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory standards. Reporting to the VP Data and Analytics, DBA collaborates closely with the management team and department representatives to manage existing systems effectively, implement enhancements, and spearhead the development of new tools, demonstrating proficiency in SQL Server, TSQL, Access, .NET, XML, and agile software development methodologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL Server database administration, coupled with experience in planning, executing, and managing migrations of on-premises databases to Microsoft Azure cloud environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Database Administration:

  • Manage and administer SQL Server databases (2005, 2008, 2012), including provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Perform regular backups, index maintenance, and database optimization to ensure optimal performance.
  • Utilize TSQL for scripting and automation of routine tasks.
  • Implement security measures and access controls to protect sensitive data.

Azure Migration Planning and Execution:

  • Assess existing on-premises databases for migration suitability and compatibility with Azure services.
  • Develop migration strategies and roadmaps based on business requirements and technical constraints.
  • Execute database migrations to Microsoft Azure, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Validate migrated databases to ensure functionality, performance, and data integrity.

Reporting Services Integration:

  • Utilize SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for generating and delivering interactive, graphical reports.
  • Integrate SQL Server databases with SSRS to provide stakeholders with actionable insights and analytics.

Application Integration:

  • Work closely with .NET developers to ensure seamless integration of SQL databases with .NET applications.
  • Collaborate on database design and optimization to support efficient data access and manipulation.

Data Management and Interoperability:

  • Utilize Access for managing and querying relational databases, as necessary.
  • Handle XML data formats for data interchange and interoperability between systems.

Performance Optimization and Monitoring:

  • Monitor database performance using Azure monitoring tools and implement performance tuning strategies as needed.
  • Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, connectivity issues, and resource contention.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions for Azure databases, such as Azure SQL Database replication, failover groups, and automated backups.
  • Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and ensure compliance with business continuity requirements.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, migration procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide knowledge sharing and training to other team members on Azure database administration and migration techniques.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • 10 years of experience as DBA for SQL Server or Azure managed instances.
  • Bacheclor's degree in Computer Science or related fields.
  • Administering Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or other Azure database services.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration, including database design, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting (SQL-Server 2005, 2008 & 2012 with reporting services)
  • TSQL for scripting and automation of routine tasks.
  • Familiarity with Access, .NET, and XML for data management and interoperability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Over 10 years of experience.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or relevant field.
  • Database management (preferably within a financial services industry)
  • Building and integrating multiple systems from multiple platforms
  • Agile Software development
  • Azure certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
