About this Role:
Under the general direction and supervision of the Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I plans, directs and organizes the day-to-day operations of the Program Policy Unit 1. The Unit conducts analysis, development, and implementation of mental health policy including, but not limited to, the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA). The Staff Services Manager I has direct supervision over a team of professional staff. The incumbent must be able to effectively supervise a team of analytical staff, manager multiple priorities, and possess strong analytical, leadership, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills. The incumbent may be required to work with and be exposed to sensitive and confidential issues and/or materials and is expected to maintain confidentiality at all times. The incumbent conducts business in professional and service-oriented manner and in representing the Department; establishes and builds rapport through open communication; promotes teamwork and cross-function collaboration and communication in support of DHCS strategic goals. Demonstrates principles of completed staff work. Statewide travel, possibly overnight, may be required up to 10% of the time.

This position is subject to the Department’s Conflict of Interest Code and filing a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) when assuming this position, annually by April 1, and when leaving this position.

Telework Information

This position may be eligible for telework up to three days per week and is required to report in-person and site-based a minimum of two days per week. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change consistent with DHCS’ Telework Program and Government Code sections 14200 – 14203. Telework is available to California residents, and proof of residency may be required.

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated office and residence subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
