The Herbert College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is looking for vibrant, dynamic individuals interested in working in a team environment dedicated to student success. The Student Success Advisor fulfills a vital role in providing comprehensive academic advising and supporting holistic student success for undergraduate students pursuing or interested in majors or minors within the Herbert College of Agriculture.
The position is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position that provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of UTK’s advising strategic plan that integrates academic and career advising with self-exploration, leadership, and experience learning.
This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.
The Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Advising and Student Success for the Herbert College of Agriculture, the Student Success Advisor is responsible for assisting students in the development and implementation of educational plans consistent with their academic, career, and personal goals. This position requires a strong commitment to student success, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of university policies and procedures related to academic advising.

Education:
Master’s Degree at the time of hire
Experience:
Advisor 1: Experience working with students in a college or university setting
Advisor 2: Two (2) years of professional experience working full-time in an academic advising or related position at the college/university level
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of student information systems such as DARS, BANNER, SalesForce, or related software
Thorough working knowledge of academic advising practices and student development theory
Experience working with a diverse student population
Experience in working and collaborating with faculty and campus partner
Preferred:
Education:
Master’s in Education, Higher Education, College Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Student Development, Counseling, or related area.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Advising experience in higher education
Passion for agriculture
Experience in conducting assessments and implementing improvements
Experience in developing and creating student retention strategies
Experience in working in a team-oriented environment
Experience conducting first-year and/or transfer orientations
