Job Description

Job Description: Tutor Manager

The Role

Our fast-growing tutoring company is looking for a passionate, resourceful, detail-oriented individual to ensure our tutors and students alike have a meaningful and mutually enriching experience. As a result of your efforts, our tutors will be fulfilled, our clients will rave about us, and our company’s growth will continue.

You’ll spend your day speaking with prospective clients and answering questions, following up on client/tutor inquiries, helping expand our tutor talent pool, matching students and tutors together, and problem-solving challenges that arise.

Who Are We?

We provide one-to-one, in-person and online tutoring to students in grades pre-K through college. We tutor across all subjects and specialize in serving diverse learners, such as students who have ADHD or learning disabilities. We’re the leading tutoring company in Chicago specializing in working with diverse learners, and we have recruited a rich pool of passionate educators to serve students whose needs often go unmet.

We excel at matching our tutors and students in background, experience, skills and personality. Our method of pairing students and tutors ensures each student works with a tutor who can hone in on their specific needs and learning styles. With our tailored approach, students make significant progress, meet their educational goals and benefit from increased self confidence. Our process empowers students to experience real growth and feelings of accomplishment, sometimes for the first time ever.

The work we do has a lifelong effect on our students and their families. We help our students turn their challenges into achievements.

What You’ll Do

As the Tutor Manager, you’ll have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:

GROWING OUR CLIENT BASE by fielding inquiries from families interested in tutoring services, pairing them with the right tutor, and determining the cost of the tutoring based upon the student need.

GROWING OUR POOL OF TALENTED TUTORS by making decisions about hiring new tutors, onboarding new tutors, coaching tutors for success, and problem solving when needed. This includes recruiting for specialty assignments.

MATCHMAKING TUTORS AND CLIENTS by knowing our tutors and their specialties, helping clients understand why a specific tutor is the right fit, and keeping the match-making process moving along with parents and tutors.

ENSURING WE’RE MEETING OUR STUDENTS’ NEEDS by proactively reaching out to students, parents and tutors to monitor progress being made; by showing we care; and by addressing concerns, questions and challenges in a timely manner.

About You

You’ll be successful in this role if:

● You have a deep PASSION for meeting students’ educational needs and for creating rewarding work for teachers, even when it is not easy/straightforward to make this happen. You enjoy putting in the time to see a real difference in the work you’re doing.

● You are RESOURCEFUL. You like to find creative solutions when problems arise and are constantly thinking about how you can improve situations and processes. You AVOID OVERCOMMITTING to unrealistic expectations while putting a positive spin on what CAN be done for any given stakeholder.

● You excel at written and verbal COMMUNICATION. People are always wondering how you came up with such a powerful, effective, and seemingly effortless way of wording things.

● You are a GOOD LISTENER who will give parents and tutors their full attention, show empathy, and practice active listening to ensure the other party feels heard and understood.

● You are DETERMINED and shamelessly pursue what is best for students when faced with lack of response and other obstacles.

● You are PATIENT, regularly giving the other person the benefit of the doubt and seeking to understand (vs. jumping to conclusions). You are able to put a positive spin on things even when dealing with difficult personalities.

● You are DETAIL-ORIENTED and can effectively PRIORITIZE AND MANAGE MULTIPLE PRIORITIES throughout the day and the week. You get a thrill out of crossing items off your to do list and don’t let details, deadlines, or emails slip through the cracks.

● You take 100% RESPONSIBILITY and always ask yourself what you can do to improve every situation.

● You are RELIABLE. You are known for doing what you say you’re going to do 99.9 percent of the time.

● You live in the CHICAGOLAND AREA or are willing to relocate there. You are familiar with the different parts of the city, its pulse and traffic patterns and look forward to an occasional in-person meeting with tutors and the Tutoring Program Director.

What Experience and Skills Do You Need for This Role?

The ideal candidate will have a professional background that includes experience:

● Serving in a school-based special education setting with extensive knowledge of special education terminology (IEPs, 504 plans, etc.), programming, and research-based interventions. (Looking for 4+ years experience.)

● Educator license

● Managing an educational program, serving in school administration or leading a department where you supervised a team of teachers, program assistants or volunteers. Ability to schedule effectively and troubleshoot schedules in an education environment.

● Working in a client-facing role, particularly one’s focused on parents and families.

● Using computers and technology, including email, Google Suite and other online software.

Bonus Points If You Have:

● One-on-one/small group tutoring experience

● Experience working in Chicago Public Schools

● Special education / Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement

● Live or have significant experience in the Chicagoland area

What We Offer:

● Full-time, salaried position

● Fixed compensation of $56,000-60,000 (including base salary + home office stipend)

● Annual profit-sharing bonus plan

● Medical insurance (50% employer contribution)

● Paid time off & sick leave

● Retirement plan (optional 410K contributions of your choice, no company match)

● Our company is an agile small business that has grown rapidly. Your voice will be important in shaping our future.
